As you can see there’s a lot to love here!

The Dewalt Heat System

Any good winter jacket will provide a number of important features. Some of the most crucial ones include coverage, wind resistance, water resistance, and above all, insulation. Though all jackets solve these winter issues in different ways, the Dewalt 20-Volt Heated Jacket takes winter warmth to the next level.

Almost all jackets keep you warm by trapping your own body heat in air pockets between the outer and inner lining. Traditional goose down or synthetics like Thermoball work effectively because they’re good at trapping that heat that comes from you and keeping you enclosed in a cloud of warm air. However, the Dewalt 20-volt Heated Jacket generates its own heat even before you’ve put it on.

Four Heat Zones

The Dewalt 20-Volt jacket generates warmth by using rechargeable lithium-ion batteries to heat four key “heat zones” throughout the jacket: the left and right chest, the cold-vulnerable mid-back region, and the neck-warming high collar. Each of these heat zones is run by an LED controller that allows the wearer to pre-set the temperature or adjust it as needed just like an electric blanket at home.

Three Adjustable Heat Settings

Unlike with other jackets, there’s no need to wait or walk around in order to heat up the insulation material around you. Instead, the Dewalt 20-Volt has a pre-heating setting that warms the jacket up for you even before you slide it on and go outside into the cold. Three heat settings allow you to control exactly how warm you want to be depending on the weather or your personal needs. When fully charged, the battery unit provides 7.5 hours of toasty heat, although the highest settings will use more power.

7.5 Hours of Battery Power

Using a space-saving and rechargeable 20-volt MAX battery that lasts for an average of 7.5 hours, the power unit is stored in a dedicated expandable pocket neatly contained at the back of the jacket. In addition to coming with a one-year limited warranty, the Dewalt 20-Volt Heated Jacket comes with a 20V/12V MAX USB power source, a DECB201 20V MAX battery, and a DCB101 20V/12V fast charger that fully recharges the Dewalt battery in approximately one hour.

The Jacket Recharges Your Phone

In addition to battery-powered heat zones to keep you warm in the middle of winter, the Dewalt 20-Volt Heated Jacket can also recharge your cell phone. Just plug your cell phone into one of the two available USB ports on the battery pack of the jacket, and your phone will stay charged while you stay warm. The inner cell phone pocket of the Dewalt jacket is intended to work with a standard USB cable that can easily reach from the battery pocket to the inner left chest of the jacket to charge your cell as you walk.

Wind and Water-Resistant Shell

The Dewalt 20-Volt Heated Jacket comes in classic black and features a wind- and water-resistant polyester outer shell. The soft-shell fabric of the Dewalt adds to its overall comfort while protecting you against the elements. Please note that any fabric that is described as “water-resistant” will provide some protection from rain, snow, and normal precipitation for a period of time but is still somewhat porous to allow for breathability. The wind resistance really cuts down on heat loss in this jacket.

Adjustable Cuffs and Waist Ties

Winter winds have a way of working their way into any available opening in a jacket they can find. The Dewalt Heated Jacket comes equipped with fully adjustable cuffs and cinched waistband for you to keep the heat you’re generating sealed in tight, especially in those crucial areas that lose heat. Arm length is generous in this jacket and the cuff seals allow you to customize the fit to your wrist.

Five Pockets

The Dewalt Heated Jacket comes with five generous pockets, including a right and left outside waist pocket, outer left and right chest, and an inner left chest pocket which is ideal for storing your cell phone when it’s being charged by the 20-volt battery. There are plenty of places to store your belongings and have them right at hand when you need them.

Toasty High Neck

We lose a lot of our body heat through our head and neck. One extremely comfortable feature of the Dewalt Heated Jacket is that the neck of the jacket is one of the four heating zones this jacket provides. You may even want to leave your muffler at home. Having that special attention to detail is a thoughtful feature that helps to keep you warm.

Elbow Tucks for Mobility and Comfort

You can find further commitment to comfort in the elbows of the Dewalt Heated Jacket. In some bulky winter coats, it’s hard to move any part of you, especially your arms. In the Dewalt Heated Jacket, a series of thoughtful tucks are included at the outside of each elbow. This series of elbow tucks allows you to layer up, but still be able to bend and flex your arms, carry equipment, and move around without feeling like a mummy. You can comfortably wear a sweatshirt, sweater, or long-sleeved base layer underneath this jacket.

Durable Zippers

The attention to detail often separates a great jacket from the rest of the pack. The Dewalt jacket considers comfort and functionality from top to bottom. A high-necked heated collar with a covered zipper tuck pocket at the top not only keeps out stray wind gusts but prevents the heavy-duty, durable plastic zipper head from transferring cold to your neck. It’s a small detail that reflects Dewalt’s commitment to comfort.

Dewalt Heated Jacket FAQ’S

Does the battery pack get in the way?

The battery pack sits in the mid-back region above the belt line, so it’s easy to wear a tool belt without the battery pack getting in the way. The weight or mass of the battery pack may be noticeable at first to some people while walking or sitting, but this initial reaction usually does not last long with continuous wearing.

How thick is the Dewalt Heated Jacket?

The jacket is a solidly medium-weight jacket that allows the heated coils in the chest, back, and neck to sit as close as possible to your skin without overheating you or taking too long to warm up. The Dewalt Heated Jacket fits generously true to size in order to allow you to layer up underneath to whatever degree you want. If the jacket is fitted too loosely, however, the heating elements may not be able to be in full contact with your body, so get the Dewalt Heated Jacket in a size that would fit you comfortably.

Will the jacket keep me warm with the heaters off?

The Dewalt Heated Jacket is meant to be used with the heating elements, but depending on the weather, the wind chill factor, your personal sensitivity to heat or cold, and the layers you’re wearing underneath your jacket, the Dewalt functions very well in chilly weather even with the heating elements off. Of course, the colder it gets, the more the heating elements help keep your body heat at a comfortable temperature.

Is the jacket washable?

The manufacturer’s specifications suggest that the best washing treatment for this jacket is to hand wash it. The best advice is not to machine wash or dry the Dewalt jacket, even on a machine’s hand wash cycle. Wash the jacket by hand. Don’t wring it out, because that might damage the wires. Simply let it hang to dry. Avoid dry-cleaning this jacket and do not use bleach or fabric softener.

What size should I get?

The Dewalt 20-Volt Heated Jacket is generously cut and true to size. It is intended to be worn with some layers, but with the heating elements relatively close to the body in order to provide warm comfort, just like a heating blanket. Bottom line, the Dewalt Heated Jacket will work optimally if it is not too large on you so that the heating elements can come into contact with your right and left chest, back, and neck.

Is this a jacket suitable for running or ultralight hiking?

At 5.4 pounds total with the battery pack included, the Dewalt Heated Jacket may not be suitable for all runners or ultralight backpackers who are interested in cutting every spare gram, but for most outdoor work involving walking, standing, or moving around plowing or shoveling snow, or for recreational activities such as standard hiking, camping, or being outside in biting cold, the Dewalt Heated Jacket is a great choice.
